Congratulations on Dr. Xian Xie’s excellent work published in JACS

Recently, our team’s collaborative work has been published online in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS). Two former postdoctoral fellows of Lin Lab, Dr. Xian Xie and Dr. Xu Yan, contributed equally to this work. Congratulations to them! This work is a collaboration with Prof. Liming Bian’s team from South China University of Technology.

Our study presents a gelatin-based, tunable coacervate matrix that mimics the dynamic biophysical cues of the embryonic extracellular matrix (ECM) to regulate stem cell fate. Utilizing liquid-liquid phase separation, this system supports stemness during the pre-implantation stage and promotes invasive behaviors via a stiffening coacervate-hydrogel transition, offering a versatile platform for developmental modeling.

The Journal of the American Chemical Society, founded in 1879, is the flagship journal of the American Chemical Society and the world’s preeminent journal of chemistry and interfacing areas of science.
The journal impact factor is 15.7 (2024).

Congratulations on Mr. Hongqi Zhao’s excellent work published in Advanced Composites and Hybrid Materials

Recently, Mr. Hongqi Zhao, a PhD student (CUHK) from Lin lab and colleagues from Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology published their excellent work in Advanced Composites and Hybrid Materials. Congratulations!

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic joint disorder characterized by synovial inflammation, cartilage degradation and macrophage polarization imbalance, where excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and mitochondrial dysfunction exacerbate pro-inflammatory M1 macrophage polarization. The team has developed a pH-responsive selenium-doped MgAl-layered double hydroxide nanocomposite (Se/LDH@PEG-M) loaded with mitochondrial-targeted Mito-TEMPO for OA therapy. In the acidic OA microenvironment, it degrades to release selenium, Mg²⁺, and the ROS scavenger. The material exhibits glutathione peroxidase (GPX)-like antioxidant activity, effectively scavenges ROS, inhibits pro-inflammatory M1 macrophage polarization, promotes anti-inflammatory M2 shift, and restores mitochondrial OXPHOS and ATP production. In vitro, it suppressed inflammatory pathways and protected chondrocytes from apoptosis and catabolism. In murine OA models, intra-articular injection significantly reduced synovitis, osteophyte formation, and cartilage degradation, demonstrating a promising multifunctional approach via ROS scavenging, inflammation suppression, and macrophage metabolism reprogramming.

Advanced Composites and Hybrid Materials (Journal Impact Factor 21.8, 2024) is a single-blind peer-reviewed journal focused on composites and nanocomposites, their design, modeling, advanced manufacturing, interface engineering technologies and applications.
